Oh I saw that you were profile at photoblogs the other day and wanted to say congrats! :)
phil: the rebel (300D) is a great buy. it's got a lot of the functionality of the 10D, but has a lighter body and the pricepoint is great. i'd just invest on better lenses. check out dpreview's side by side to help decide...
oh, and congrats on your recent nods from moby and photoblogs.org. both well deserved, imho.
Rion, the close up of the apples is a great shot. Also nice is the small dress with the odd cloud pattern /plane exhaust behind it.
Incidentally, I've shot two streetfairs so far this summer. One in Park Slope and another in Philly. Links below:

I'm crazy about the the shot of the pink dress and the jet contrail (cloud thingy.) I've been replaying it in mind all weekend and am now driven to comment.
Did you consider cropping (if that's not a dirty word) out the clothes on the left? I keep wanting to eliminate them and a smidge from the bottom too. I think it might really play up the visual similarities between the lacy elements of the dress and the same lacy element of the contrail. It would simplify the photo to two colors as well as play up the parallel lines made by the hanger and the roof top.
Like I said, for some reason this photo keeps occupying brain wave space--a high compliment!
