ADDITIONAL NOTES:

the second bomb scare at times square's 8th ave subway station in less than a month: an unidentified bag was found around 7pm friday night. blocks were cleared by police as curious spectators, tourists, strippers (photo 5) and local office workers (including us) watched a bomb squad officer check out what ended up being someone's diaper bag.

after the bag was determined safe, we also watched while police weren't as an employee of the adjacent diner exited a sidedoor, casually took something out of the bag and walked back into the diner with it (photo 8). ah, new york city.

the last bomb scare was suspect of being planted by the transit officer who was injured when it exploded... all sorts of fun for a neighborhood just ten blocks north of the upcoming republican convention.

anyways, everything's safe: that last photo is of the bag's remainder. for bomb scare number two, it seems the diapers were clean...

These are fantastic photos Rion, and very topical! The guy in the green "deep sea diver" type outfit is great. He looks like something out of an old comic book.

a bomb scare at kuala lumpur's twin towers left a little girl's school bag being blown to pieces by our rather inexperienced anti-bomb squad.

Love the bleach on top of the playpen. Ew.

Honestly, I usually don't get terribly moved by photography, but these have definitely struck a chord. Incredible photos.

There was another one today (sunday) in the rockefeller center subway station, right before the Dominican Republic ? parade. They blocked off a stairwell and some of the surrounding area, and they were detouring people around it. I didn't see the conclusion. Probably just more deli trash.

I love the shot of the diapers - it's very apt for a crap-my/your-pants moment.

Great series... love the shot choices and the order... very powerful storytelling. ;)

Beautiful photos, as I was scrolling down and saw the guy in the bomb suit for the first time, I thought "uh oh.." but I'm glad I didn't see any gory images of limbs flying etc :) .. Great series. Very well done.

i laugh when i see all the people waiting around to see what is going to happen. if it was a actual bomb and something went wrong; i think alot of those people would be in trouble.
