ADDITIONAL NOTES:
above, the long line of people who were waiting to view the high line, one of the events for the second annual open house new york that was held two weekends ago. (i never posted these due to server problems that happened immediately after that weekend.) tho i heard that the high line wasn't actually open and that the viewing of it was from an adjacent building, the line for viewing still stretched down a very, very long block in the meatpacking district.
access for viewing the high line was provided by Friends of the High Line, who have been instrumental in saving it from being dismantled and instead converting it to public space. for more info, check out high line history and photos at lightningfield and tienmao of what those patient people in the line above got a glimpse at. more ohny coverage on this site.

watching people in line for viewing high line views

as a city planner, i love finding out about these sort of projects - High Line sounds really fascinating
so did you ever make it into the viewing or whatever it was?
we would have waited in line if you'd actually gotten to walk along the high line, but waiting in that size of a line to just go stand and look didn't quite seem worth it...
That is a great project, it's a pity there's not a 'green walk' similar to this that pedestrians can use to cross the city away from traffic.
love the man with the backpack "baby"
