ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Constructed in 1926, the mosque of Paris is situated behind the Institut du Monde Arab (Arab Institute) and is the oldest mosque in France. Built by Arab artisans and three French architects, the funding for the mosque's construction was given by the French Government to the French Arab community as a token of French appreciation for North African assistance during the First World War. Keeping in mind that the majority of France's Muslim community have North African roots, the mosque is appropriately North African in flavor. The architecture is Moorish and is inspired by the famous Alhambra in Spain. - islamonline.net.Related links: la Grande Mosquee de Paris [fr], Mosquee de Paris Wikimedia, and a video report from June 2006 from MSNBC: Paris' Grand Mosque is at center of effort to build a moderate French Islam.

Wow, the details are really gorgeous. I like the 3rd to last shot.
wow, this set is AWSOME! :-)
the second one is my fave
What a beautiful spot. I'm not surprised to see it was inspired by the Alhambra (the biggest difference I see - the Alhambra was packed with tourists when I visited). The top photo is my favorite; the courtyard looks so peaceful.
NICE site redesign! And, as always, gorgeous photos.
We Muslims are fond of crazy intricate details.
Thanks for the pictures; I thoroughly enjoy admiring them.
I haven't visited in awhile, but the re-design is adorable.
